  • Don't be a jerk
  • We can change these terms anytime

3. Self-Hosted = Your Responsibility

Vynl is self-hosted software. This means:

  • You run it on your own hardware/server
  • You're responsible for security, backups, maintenance
  • You control your data (we never see it)
  • You decide who has access

We are NOT responsible for:

  • Data loss
  • Security breaches on your server
  • Downtime
  • Copyright violations (if you upload pirated music)
  • Anything that happens on your instance

  • You confirm you have the right to contribute (not stolen code)

6. Third-Party Services

Vynl can integrate with third-party services (optional):

  • Claude AI (Anthropic)
  • ACRCloud / AudD (music identification)
  • Tailscale (VPN)
  • Spotify (via Sonos)

Their terms apply when you use those features. We're not responsible for their services.

7. No Warranty (Important!)

Vynl is provided "AS IS" with NO WARRANTY.

We make no promises that:

  • It will work perfectly
  • It won't crash
  • It's bug-free
  • It's suitable for your needs
  • It won't delete your data

Use at your own risk.

If something breaks, you're responsible for fixing it (or finding help in the community).

8. Limitation of Liability

We are NOT liable for:

  • Data loss
  • Server failures
  • Security breaches
  • Lost revenue
  • Any damages (direct or indirect)

Maximum liability: $0 (it's free software)

9. Copyright & DMCA

Vynl is a tool. What you do with it is your responsibility.

If you use Vynl to:

  • Stream pirated music — Your problem
  • Violate copyright — Your problem
  • Share copyrighted content illegally — Your problem

We don't host your music. You do. Any copyright issues are between you and the rights holders.

DMCA notices should be directed at the server operator (you), not us.

10. Acceptable Use

Don't use Vynl to:

  • Break laws
  • Violate others' rights
  • Distribute malware
  • Attack other systems
  • Harm others

If you do: We can't stop you (it's self-hosted), but legal consequences are yours.

11. Support

Vynl is community-supported:

  • GitHub Discussions
  • GitHub Issues (for bugs)
  • Community Discord/forums (if created)

We may help if we feel like it, but there's no obligation.

Want guaranteed support? Hire a developer or consultant.

12. Updates & Changes

We can:

  • Update Vynl anytime
  • Change features
  • Remove features
  • Abandon the project (it's open source, someone else can fork it)

You can:

  • Choose not to update
  • Fork and maintain your own version
  • Stay on an old version forever

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Changes will be posted here with a new date. Continued use = acceptance of new terms.

14. Termination

You can stop using Vynl anytime. Just delete it.

We can:

  • Take down the website (vynl.music) anytime
  • Stop distributing Vynl
  • Archive the project

But: The code is open source. Even if we disappear, Vynl lives on via GitHub forks.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by Swiss law (because that's where we're based). Disputes will be settled in Swiss courts.

Translation: If we end up in court (unlikely), it happens in Switzerland.

16. Severability

If part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.

17. Entire Agreement

These terms + the MIT License = the whole agreement. No verbal promises override this document.
